Trinidad calypsonian Chalkdust is to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Local historian, Trevor Marshall, has announced his intention to make the recommendation to the selection committee.

He believes the pioneering work of the calypsonian, whose real name is Hollis Liverpool, laid the groundwork for the eventual creation of the University of the West Indies’ Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts.

Mr. Marshall was speaking as the wax statues of Chalkdust and Miss Universe 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam were unveiled.

The statues, which took about three months each to complete, were done by the Caribbean Wax Museum.

Director, Art Edwards, explained how he selects who he memorialises in this way.

Ms. Fitzwilliam was present for the big reveal and described it as a true honour.

She praised the people of Barbados, who she notes have led the region in many areas, including the recognition of common law unions.
