With the advent of artificial intelligence and its growth in critical sectors including education, a senior Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) official is telling Barbados and the region countries need not fear AI.

Manager of Research Insight and Products Innovation at CXC, Dr. Margaret Niles says AI, like any other technology depends on the user.

She views it as an example of the creativity and ingenuity of the human mind.

Dr. Niles was among the panel for the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor Forum where the topic “Artificial Intelligence (AI) – a Blessing or Curse for Higher Education” was discussed.

She told the forum the impact of AI on teaching and learning can occur at any level.

Research and Foresight Analyst with UNESCO’s International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, Arianna Valentini says AI can be both a blessing and a curse.

She’s of the view it can be a tool that’s mostly biased.
