Appeal to take special care of the elderly

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is once again appealing to the public to take special care of the elderly during the current COVID-19 wave.

It says this vulnerable group can have multiple comorbidities, and contracting COVID-19 can place them at higher risk for negative outcomes compared to younger people.

The public is also reminded to encourage elderly people in their care to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19, as this reduces the risk of severe illness or dying due to the virus, even with the advent of successive variants.

The Ministry also urges the public to seek medical attention for the elderly and get them tested for COVID as early as possible when they are not feeling well, as a delay in care can reduce their chances of a more favourable outcome.
