Barbados continues push for pharmaceutical equity

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has met with the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Makhtar Diop and Rwandan President, Paul Kagame.
This is as she attends IMF meetings in Washington.

The IFC announced its support for a new partnership among countries in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa on Tuesday, the Transatlantic Alliance for Health and Pharmaceutical Equity. This aims to achieve the development and manufacturing of 60 per cent of all essential pharmaceuticals in the respective regions by 2040.

Prime Minister Mottley says it will help the goal of achieving pharmaceutical equity, while providing opportunities for citizens whose expertise is in the area of sciences.

The initiative will focus on oncological drugs, preventive and therapeutic vaccines, as well improving women’s health outcomes.
