The COVID-19 Omicron subvariant BA.2 is in Barbados.
Moments ago Health and Wellness Minister Ian Gooding-Edghill confirmed the highly transmissible subvariant is on our shores.
Previously, at an April 5th COVID-19 press conference, the Minister had revealed that the increase seen in cases was likely due to the circulation of BA.2, and testing was to be carried out by CARPHA to confirm its presence.
He went on to add that the numbers from the latest dashboard show a new record in our positivity rate.
Minister Gooding-Edghill says Government has been preparing for this moment and reminded the public there will be no tightening of protocols at this time.
