With concern the ongoing Crop Over season will increase the risk of spread of monkeypox and new COVID-19 variants, there is another appeal to Barbadians.
The Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) is urging the public to practice existing COVID-19 public health measures as their best line of defence against the two viruses.
Reacting to the news of Barbados’ first confirmed case of monkeypox, BAMP President Dr Lynda Williams says she wants people, especially those attending mass gatherings and other major events where there is potential for close contact, not to drop their guard.
Dr Williams has been speaking to CBC News after a BAMP news release issued as a guide to inform Barbadians about the modes of transmission, the symptoms and the response to monkeypox.
She has also issued advice for individuals who believe they have been exposed to or exhibiting symptoms.
