Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says the Barbados delegation at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt is already taking steps to create solutions to the climate crisis with other countries and organisations.
COP27 opened in Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday and Ms. Mottley, who is leading Barbados’ representatives at the event said via Instagram on the first day, the conference ought “to be the bridge to solutions, which are particularly needed now, in this climate crisis”.
“Today, we took steps to crossing this bridge as a Barbados delegation held bilaterals with the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon; CEO of The Nature Conservancy, Jennifer Morris; Executive Vice President of Biodiversity & Conservation at XPRIZE Foundation Peter Houlihan; incoming COP28 President-Designate, H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber; and COP26 President the Hon. Alok Sharma.”
She was adamant about the need for urgent action on climate matters.
“Over the coming days, I believe COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh can be a historic session that benefits not only developing countries, but the entire world and its future generations,” she added.
COP27 continues until November 18.
