Barbados records 51st COVID-related death

A 65 year old Barbadian woman is the 51st person to die from COVID-19.

She passed away on Tuesday, August 31st, after reporting to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The deceased had comorbidities and she is not recorded as having been vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has extended sincere condolences to her family and friends.

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory recorded 40 new cases of the virus (18 females and 22 males). Of these, 29 people were 18 years old and over, while 11 were under 18.

The number of tests conducted on Tuesday was 1,665.

There are currently 370 people in isolation.

Barbados has recorded 5,072 confirmed COVID-19 cases (2,491 females and 2,581 males) since March 2020.

The public health laboratory has carried out 264,023 tests since February 2020.

Under the National Vaccination Programme, 111,148 people have received first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. To date, 94,687 second doses have been administered. This figure represents 34.9% of the population.
