2022 has been hailed as a year of important progress in relations between China and Barbados.
The strides made were recognized by China’s Ambassador to Barbados, Ambassador Yan Xiusheng.
Among the highlights of last year, the celebration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Bridgetown.
Ambassador Xiusheng’s comments came during the 9th annual Fish and Dragon Festival which was held virtually to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The Chinese New Year 2023 will fall on Sunday, January 22nd, starting a Year of the Rabbit.
The festival, produced by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Barbados and the Central Bank of Barbados, featured performing arts troupes, acrobatic and kung fu displays, along with samples of Barbadian and Chinese culture.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight commended China for its staging of the festival, noting the two countries have cooperated in the area of culture since the 1980s.
