The alarm has been raised about what appears to be the increasing number of surveillance cameras being installed across Barbados.
Cameras have been mounted on a traffic structure at Waterford and there are some at roundabouts and other points as well.
Pan Africanist, Dr. Deryck Murray, who made the observation, said he is concerned about Barbadians’ freedom and right to privacy, given the heightened surveillance island wide.
He is contending that outside of providing added security, the cameras give the state the ability to track people as they move around.
Dr. Murray also questioned the transparency of the process, saying although Barbados has been making efforts re: data protection there are questions which still need to be answered.
