Concerns about threats to media workers

October 26th, 2022

There’s a suggestion media workers in Barbados and globally are facing increased threats and attacks.

To this end, 1st Vice President of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers, Emmanuel Joseph, is calling on journalists to speak about these challenges.

His message comes on the heels of a senior television anchor from Pakistan being killed in suspicious circumstances, and also as the Public Media Alliance reports a surge in online attacks on media professionals.

Mr. Joseph, who’s also the General Secretary of the Barbados Association of Journalists and Media Workers, says the strategies available to the media to keep themselves safe are limited.

The BARJAM General Secretary travelled to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday to attend a seminar on how to cover stories dealing with corruption, which he says is another source of danger to the health and well-being of journalists.
