Construction of another highway being considered

Government has committed close to half a billion dollars to improve the island’s road infrastructure over the next few years.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley made the revelation even as she suggested the time may come for Barbados to consider constructing another highway to deal with the country’s traffic congestion issues.

She was speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase Two of the 43 million dollar Global Roads Project, being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.

She reveals Government has repaired more than 60 roads, including highways and abandoned roads in the Scotland District since coming to office in 2018.

The Prime Minister has also suggested a number of practices must be resumed to protect the integrity of roads including planting cus cus grass to keep water in fields, and prevent it from undermining roads.

She’s called on the Ministry of Transport and Works to install bicycle lanes on major roadways.
