Countries not doing enough

September 8th, 2021

Barbados has expressed its disappointment before a High Level meeting stating the national climate plans agreed to in the Paris Agreement and submitted by several countries are not doing enough.

According to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, this is despite being aware of the dangers.

She says Barbados’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are some of the most ambitious submitted and sets the country firmly on a 1.5 degrees Celsius pathway.

Prime Minister Mottley highlighted the plights of Barbados and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and called on leaders to take action to save lives and the planet.

The Barbadian leader was a part of the panel for the one day virtual High-Level Dialogue on Climate Action in the Americas.

Ms. Mottley again raised the issue of finance for SIDS, as the matter is one the country also intends to push at the upcoming COP26.
