Difficult time for financing Government operations

Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ryan Straughn says the last six to nine months have been difficult for financing Government operations.

Aside from responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, he says Government has had to address housing issues caused by the passage of Hurricane Elsa.

He notes with an escalation in prices driven by external activity, Government has already put some measures in place to address the impact.

Minister Straughn was at the time contributing to Debate on the Pandemic Contribution Levy Bill 2022.

He says Government has heard the calls for a wage increase and has received the labour unions’ views on the matter in writing.
