Drought could continue until October

The drought affecting Barbados could continue until October.

This as fresh rainfall predictions for the next few months are not looking promising.

After consulting with the Director of the Met Office, Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley revealed rainfall data for the first five months of the year shows a 50 per cent reduction compared to the 30-year average.

It is due to this the Government through the Ministry of Agriculture continues to supply water to farmers via trucks to address issues they’re having with supply to advertise a potential crisis in this regard.

Prime Minister Mottley also revealed plans to help Barbadians through the Barbados water authority with a backup supply.

The Prime Minister broke the news in her feature address during the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) National Stakeholder Consultation hosted at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
