Entrepreneurs tackling electric vehicle battery concern

June 11th, 2022

There’s been some discussion about how Barbados will deal with the old batteries from electric vehicles.

Two local entrepreneurs have been searching for ways to ensure they do not become a problem for this country.

Founder and Chairman of Williams Industries, Ralph ‘Bizzy’ Williams and Clinton Belle of the Energy Store spoke about their efforts during a presentation which formed part of the week of celebrations for World Environment Day.

It was hosted by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.

Mr. Belle says the vehicle batteries are more rugged than the ones designed for housing and reconditioned ones can last for another 15 to 20 years.

Mr. Williams meanwhile provided a local example of how this has been done using the old battery from his electric car.
