Farm-able programme empowering disabled community

December 12, 2022

An effort is underway to get scores of young people in the disabled community involved in the agriculture sector.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture has partnered with the Barbados Environmental Conservation Trust to implement a Farm-able Livelihoods Project, that focuses on expanding the participation of the disabled in farming.

Technical Specialist with IICA, Dr. Roxanne Waithe, says they have started to introduce aspects of the programme at the Challenor School.

The project is expected to encompass the Derrick Smith and Ann Hill schools and should benefit about 50 young people.

Chief Agriculture Officer Keely Holder says the project is a key part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s food security drive.
