Fires near two schools have forced the Ministry of Education to close the institutions.
The schools are St. Judes Primary School in St. George and the Lodge School, at Society, St. John.
In this video from a Lodge School student, the gray mass of smoke can be seen in the distance.
According to the Ministry, the decision to close the schools was taken as a result of heavy smoke emanating from fires in their environs.
The Ministry says it will inform of their reopening following assessments by fire officials and/or environmental health officials.
It also expressed its regrets for any inconvenience that the closures may cause.
