Barbados has made a call before the 76th World Health Assembly for countries to take steps in building resiliency to withstand all forms of disasters.
These disasters, according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. the Most Honourable Kenneth George, include biological, hydrological and meteorological and can result in health emergencies.
He says Barbados will continue to support initiative to improve preparedness, mitigation and response to health emergencies.
Dr. George told the second Committee Session though Barbados and the Caribbean are not on the frontline of wars, conflicts and mass movement of displaced people, COVID-19 has taught countries in the region to be ever vigilant and prepared for any eventuality.
