Golden Square Freedom Park officially opened

November 27th, 2021

History was created this evening as the Golden Square Freedom Park was officially opened in Bridgetown.

Albeit under COVID protocols and limited numbers, dignitaries including Governor General and President-elect Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, members of Cabinet, members of the diplomatic corp and other officials were in attendance.

The ceremony featured elements such as cultural presentations in song and dance as well as recorded speeches from artists.

In her speech, Prime Minister Mottley reflected on the island’s history, its forefathers and leaders as she called for Barbadians to respect the Square.

Noting the newly open Freedom Park lies in the midst of a wider community, the Prime Minister revealed the nearby Fairchild Street Terminal will be renamed in honour of late Spiritual Baptist leader, Archbishop Granville Williams.
