Major changes could be coming to the fishing town of Oistins in the coming years.
Member of Parliament for Christ Church South Ralph Thorne, while speaking during the official launch of the Oistins Festival, revealed that plans for the construction of hotels and the relocation of government offices are on the agenda.
However, he underpinned the importance of maintaining the character of the fishing town.
The Oistins Festival was officially launched on Saturday after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Mr Thorne, the fishing industry is essential in sustaining Barbadian society.
While acknowledging the fishing sector’s rich history, Minister Thorne says industry symbolizes freedom and liberation for many Barbadians.
