Investigations ongoing into alleged recording

February 10, 2023

An investigation is underway into an alleged recording of a private conversation between an attorney and her client in a police station.

Attorney General Dale Marshall told CBC News a complaint has been made and the Barbados Police Service has taken steps to address the matter.

His comments come after reports of an incident at the District E Police Station in St. Lucy, last Saturday.

It’s been reported that a cellphone was duct-taped under a desk being used by a lawyer having consultations with an accused in an interview room.

Reports further indicate the phone was discovered when it fell and it appeared to be recording.

The Attorney General says if the allegations prove to be true, disciplinary action will follow.

The incident has already been reported to the Police Commissioner, the Police Complaints Authority as well as the Bar Association.
