Health Minister Senator Dr. the Most Honourable Jerome Walcott has announced a number of key improvements for the nursing profession, including new incentives for upward mobility and training, a home for the Barbados Nurses Association (BNA) and the resumption of midwifery training from next January.
The Minister made the comments during a ceremony at the Savannah Hotel to officially launch Nurses Week 2023 activities.
He said the future of health care in Barbados will be dependent on a resilient nursing workforce, with improved skill sets and the ability to operate independently of medical practitioners.
The Minister adds that other areas of improvement to the profession will also be forthcoming including building capacity at educational institutions to be able to run specialised training courses for nurses.
