Look out for major developments in the housing sector within the next few weeks and months.
Word of this from Housing Minister, Dwight Sutherland who is standing by his word that 49 people affected by Hurricane Elsa should be in their homes within the next six months. Furthermore, he says the massive relocation of squatters from Rock Hall in St Philip will officially begin next week.
Minister Sutherland says it’s all part of a massive drive in the housing sector to get Barbadians into their own homes.
He outlined the plan as he piloted a Resolution to vest 14 acres of land at Fairy Valley in Christ Church to the Barbados National Oil Company Limited, through the House of Assembly.
The Minister said this year they intend to build 14 hundred homes, including at the Parish Land extension where the former Rock Hall residents will live.
Minister Sutherland says they are also addressing the issue of the huge backlog of over 25,000 applications at the National Housing Corporation.
