Money making potential

May 21, 2023

18 years after the fiery Glendairy Prison uprising, fire officials were once again called to respond to a blaze at the Station Hill facility today.

While initial reports indicated a structural fire, officers arrived to discover it was 21 derelict vehicles on the compound which were ablaze.

Two water tenders and nine fire officers under the command of Divisional Officer Tremelle Perch responded to the call which came in shortly after one this afternoon.

CBC News understands the officers had to use bolt cutters to gain access to the vehicles which were behind a locked gate.

One resident who asked that her identity be concealed said in recent years, the area had become overrun with bush and cow itch.

She believes with its rich history, it could be transformed into a money-making venture for the state.
