It has been confirmed that more and more local nurses are leaving the profession for better opportunities on offer abroad.
The result is a worsening nurse-to-patient ratio in Barbados, with burnout for some nurses who are working longer hours and having other issues.
These issues were highlighted by chairman of the education committee of the Barbados Nurses’ Association, Bernard Beckles, during an interview on CBC TV 8’s Morning Report.
He says it is not that those who leave do not love their country but stressed that the international market provides opportunities for proper compensation.
