Workers in Barbados have been given further protection under the Safety and Health at Work Act.
It’s come through a clarification of what constitutes a dangerous task, which any employee can refuse to do.
Minister of Labour, Social Partnership Relations and the Third Sector Colin Jordan says the vagueness within the Act had caused some issues.
He says now a number of terms have been defined and this will help avoid misinterpretations.
Police officers, health care workers, those dealing with children or those involved in the operation of a facility for persons with a disability are among those exempted.
