A renewed partnership between the University of the West Indies and the Inter-American Development Bank should help the institution tackle current and future challenges.
A memorandum of understanding to start this new phase has been signed by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles and President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Mauricio Claver-Carone.
Speaking at the UWI regional headquarters in Jamaica, Professor Beckles noted the agreement strengthens the institution’s ability to tackle the socio-economic and environmental issues affecting the Caribbean.
Meanwhile Mr. Claver-Carone says there is need for a creative recovery from COVID-19 within the Caribbean and not just financing.
He believes UWI is key in providing the opportunities for young individuals to exhibit their productivity within the region.
