An effort by the National Cultural Foundation is giving over 50 local artisans the chance to level up their skills in leathercraft and crochet.

The opportunity comes through a 10 day masterclass workshop, which started Monday, January 31, and ends Friday, February 10.

In a release, the NCF says its Business Development Department commissioned Senegalese master tutors to conduct the sessions which are being spearheaded by Programme Facilitator Nyzinga Onifa.

Tutors include Aliou Sylla – Master Tanner and Leather Maker; Adama Diouf – Master Crochet Designer and Lisle George Forde – Master Leather Maker and Stitcher.

The interactive workshops began on Monday at the Bagnall’s Point Gallery at Pelican Craft Centre.

The NCF’s Chief Executive Officer Carol Roberts says the sessions are part of the body’s larger thrust to build and expand capacity among creatives in the fashion sector, while Chief Cultural Officer Andrea Wells highlighted the workshop’s role in creating greater ties with the African continent.
