The community of Black Rock, St. Michael is to be the site for a new urban farming project, aimed at providing food security and reducing NCD’s.
Today, the House of Assembly passed a Resolution to vest 3.35 acres of land situated behind the Psychiatric Hospital to the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation for agricultural purposes.
Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dwight Sutherland revealed the vesting falls under the Project Care Programme.
That initiative targets groups, individuals and social entities seeking to establish community-based agricultural projects.
Minister Sutherland confirms the boys on the block will be among those targeted.
He says he believes in addition to creating self-employment opportunities, the project will greatly help to address some social issues.
