Parents warned about salt and sugar content of snacks

August 19th, 2022

The Barbados Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition is lauding Government’s roll out of a healthier school menu within its Summer Nutrition Programme.

However they say more has to be done.

Viewing the trial menus in a positive light, Lead Policy Champion Professor Anne St. John, is urging Government to pass and implement a strong policy at the start of the new academic year in September.

She was a guest on CBC TV 8’s The Morning Report.

Professor St. John says in an ideal world, there would be legislation to prevent unhealthy snacks from being brought onto school compounds.

As the Coalition continues to advocate for front of package warning labels, she wants parents to pay attention to the salt and sugar content of snacks they purchase for their little ones.
