PM Mottley to co-chair international campaign

April 28, 2023

Barbados is among the countries in support of a new campaign aimed at accelerating the flow of climate-related finance to the world’s poorest countries.

The “Power Our Planet: Act Today. Save Tomorrow” campaign launched by the international advocacy organisation, Global Citizen is seeking to mobilize ordinary citizens to pressure leaders for a “seismic shift” in the way the world’s financial system works.

The move will help developing countries fight climate change and poverty.

Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley has been named as the campaign’s Co-Chair.

The campaign demands world leaders and financial institutions take immediate action to keep promises already made, free up funds and make polluters

Ms. Mottley, at the launch, made a plea for action now to save tomorrow.

The Barbadian leader also engaged in a discussion at the annual Global Citizen NOW summit in New York.

There, she revealed over 50 countries are on debt row, due to the poly-crisis.

Ms. Mottley stressed the world cannot have development funding as short term funds.
