The Barbados Police Service has described the gun crime situation in the island as unprecedented and has pledged to arrest it.
There have been 38 murders for 2022 with 29 being committed with firearms, and during a live briefing this evening at police headquarters.
Acting Commissioner of Police Erwin Boyce reaffirmed the service’s resolve to address the crime scourge.
While admitting there are areas that need to be strengthened, and strategies that require adjusting, Mr. Boyce said they remain confronted by senseless killings and a growing disrespect for law and order.
He stresses this behaviour is not the Barbadian way, and does not represent the majority of Bajans.
Acting Commissioner Boyce says the police service will undertake an approach which will ensure there is a zero tolerance to guns and gun-related matters.
He has pledged to target criminal elements relentlessly with vigour.
