Prime Minister Mottley meets with Argentine President

The President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley met today at the Lloyd Erskine Centre to begin talks.
 
The Latin American President arrived here yesterday on his inaugural trip – a first in the history of the diplomatic relations between two countries.
 
The President and his delegation which included the Director of Caribbean Affairs in Argentina, former ambassador Gustavo Pandiani, met with Prime Minister Mottley and Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Senior Minister Coordinating for all Social and Environmental Policy, Senator Dr The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, and other officials.
 
The delegations gathered with other government technocrats to discuss issues of climate change and other matters in the round of bilateral talks.
 
Following the talks, the group toured the West Coast. President Fernandez was shown areas in Sunset Crest which were prone to flooding and how they were corrected. The party then went onto the Holetown Boardwalk to see what mitigation efforts have been undertaken to preserve the coastline from the impact of global warming.
 
Later in the day, they travelled to the National Botanical Gardens in Waterford for a tree planting.
 
The Argentine President planted a Jacaranda Tree, while Prime Minister Mottley planted a Baobab Tree.
 
Plaques observing the occasion were unveiled afterwards.
 
In her comments, Prime Minister Mottley explained the trees were planted to give life.
 
Recognizing the shared issues, the Prime Minister spoke of looking forward to deepening partnerships and levels of cooperation with Argentina in the future
