Prisoner escapes Psychiatric Hospital

Police are trying to catch a 31-year-old prisoner who has escaped from the Psychiatric Hospital in Black Rock, St. Michael and would like help from the public re-arresting him. 

He is Akeem Ricardo Griffith alias ‘Menace’ or ‘Batman’ wanted for questioning in connection with serious criminal matters and last known to be living at Montrose, Christ Church. 

This evening, Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the Barbados Police Service, Inspector Rodney Inniss said: “He was in the custody of the police then later remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital where he escaped on Saturday, 18th February, 2023.”

The escapee is distinguished by four tattoos; a star on his left cheek, the word ‘THUG’ and number ‘50’ on his left hand, and the letter ‘M’ on his right hand.

He is about six feet tall, dark in complexion, slim built with a flat forehead, large nose and square chin. 

Griffith is advised to present himself to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Southern Division at Glebe Police Station, St. George with a lawyer of his choice.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Akeem Ricardo Griffith is asked to contact the same CID unit on telephone numbers 430-6819 or 430-682, Police Emergency on 211, Crime Stoppers on 1 800-8477 or the nearest police station.

Members of the public are also reminded that it is a serious offence to harbour or assist people wanted by the police and if caught committing this offence can be prosecuted. (PR/SNR)
