The demand for reparations has not dwindled.
In fact, Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies and Chair of a Caribbean Commission to Gain Reparations for the Descendants of Enslaved Africans, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, believes recent events have ignited a conscious awakening.
Speaking during the BBC’s Hardtalk programme, the eminent historian said the killing of George Floyd triggered fresh calls for reparations.
Professor Beckles refuted the notion that there is any acceptable monetary figure for reparations. He insists it must be a process and not a settlement.
