Road infrastructure issues to be addressed

February 21, 2023

Damaged road signs, pot holes and other problems with the road infrastructure are now actively being addressed under a new initiative.

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources is rolling out its National Signage and Street Infrastructure Project, launched recently at BWA headquarters.

You can expect to see these community auditors in the field conducting assessments, primarily on signage, in this first phase of the programme.

Speaking during a training workshop, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw says the auditors will be using an app to gather necessary data to inform decision making and improve road infrastructure.

The 40 community auditors involved will be using technology developed by local firm, Caribbean Transit Solutions as they capture critical information on the street signs along 20 routes covering 480 kilometres over the next two months.

Co-Founder and Marketing Lead, Veronica Millington says the Ministry now has a tool to address several issues with Barbados’ road infrastructure.
