Root & Lawrence make use of lifeless Kensington Oval pitch

England made full use of a lifeless Kensington Oval pitch to reach 244-3 at stumps on day one of the 2nd apex test against the West Indies.

Captain Joe Root led by example after winning the toss and opting to bat, as he finished unbeaten on 119, his 25th test ton.

Root and Dan Lawrence shared in a 164 run third wicket partnership, before Lawrence was dismissed just before the close for a well played 91, that included 13 4’s and one six.

Bowling for the Windies, Jayden Seales, Veerasammy Permaul and Jason Holder claimed a wicket apiece.
