Size an obstacle

Barbados and other small island developing states, despite their small size, must ensure their voices are heard given the challenges in securing sustainable financing.

This is from Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of Barbados on Investment and Financial Services Professor Avinash Persaud, who suggests finance has become what he termed ‘big finance’ for great returns.

Professor Persaud was on the panel for the Island Finance Forum 2023.

The Forum held on the theme, ‘Investment For Sustainable Development’ brought together senior financiers, development partners, and regulators to share and exchange expertise on sustainable and inclusive financial structures in island communities.

Professor Persaud used the forum to further promote the global climate finance plan, the Bridgetown Initiative. The initiative being championed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley is proposed as a new way to mobilize international finance for crisis-affected lower-income countries.
