The stage is set for the start of the 2022 sugar crop but Barbadians will have to wait until tomorrow for official word from Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security Indar Weir.
Industry officials could not be drawn into confirming a start date for harvesting, but sources close to the industry say talks between the Barbados Workers Union and sugar officials went on all day and were concluded amicably.
It is understood preparations at Barbados’ lone sugar factory, Portvale, are on schedule for the start of the annual exercise.
