Barbadians have been given the opportunity to stretch their dollars just in time for Christmas, as Government has decided to grant a vat holiday on Wednesday.
The announcement was made this afternoon by Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ryan Straughn.
This means consumers will benefit from a 17.5 per cent reduction in the cost of many retail goods.
The Minister noted, however, that there are some conditions.
Other items not eligible include vehicles, gasoline, diesel, liquid petroleum gas, guns, ammunition, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
The supply of accommodation is also not included in the VAT-free list.
The initiative is expected to cost Government several millions of dollars.
