Vegetable shortages unlikely in coming weeks

October 14th, 2022

The Barbados Agricultural Society isn’t anticipating any vegetable shortages in the coming weeks and into the holidays ahead despite recent heavy rainfall.

Chief Executive Officer James Paul says the industry is trying to keep pace with the demands at the moment.

He says the heavy rains have had some impact on those farmers currently in cultivation and there could be some delays in the planting of some crops.

However, there are no real problems.

Regarding the recent hike in feed price scare, Mr. Paul says the situation remains the same as meetings continue to take place.

Last week, Pinnacle Feeds had indicated that it was forced to raise feed prices due to high input costs, however, Government intervened in an attempt to work something out.

Pinnacle subsequently issued a statement saying it was holding off on increasing the cost and that the company is reviewing and exploring its options in the aftermath of rising input prices.
