A grim 36 hours for Barbados as six new COVID-19 deaths were recorded.

Sources within the Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed the development.

CBC News was informed five of the deaths were recorded yesterday and another this morning.

This morning’s death has been confirmed as that of Mohammed Bhana, well known motorsports enthusiast and founding member of the Roving Response Team which helps the island in times of disaster.

Friend and Acting President of Roving, Jeff Bovell confirmed to the CBC that they are all hurting today on the passing of Bhana, because he was a genuinely good person to all he encountered. Bovell reflected on the recent freak storm in June where they were out trimming trees and Mohammed called from his restaurant to ask if they had eaten. He then sent food for the crew as he was unable to be there helping.

Bovell added that there was not a dry eye this morning. He says the work done by Mohammed was invaluable to the group, as he was the main communications person during hurricane season.
