WI ready to play in Pakistan despite security concerns

December 11th, 2021

The West Indies are in Pakistan ahead of their white ball tour, which is set to start on Monday.

This is the first time the West Indies will play in Pakistan since 2018 and it comes amidst security concerns expressed by New Zealand, who abandoned their tour three months ago.

A Pakistan Cricket Board official says the 26-member Windies party has been escorted under heavy security to the team hotel.

Windies Head Coach Phil Simmons says he’s concerned about the team’s security but he’s focused on guiding the squad to the two series wins.

This is the first white ball outing for the regional boys since their poor showing at last month’s ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and with some new blood in the mix, Coach Simmons believes that now more than ever is the time to start looking to hone and develop a team for the future.

The West Indies will play three T20s and three One Day Internationals – all in Karachi – starting on Monday.
