In Grenada, approximately 20% of the officers in the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) are infected with COVID-19.
The situation has resulted in some officers working shifts of up to 16 hours a day.
Health authorities say the island started recording an upsurge of COVID-19 cases in mid-August due to mass gatherings, some of which were not authorized.
Active cases moved from 5 on August 17th to 1,791 on September 10th, 2021.
Authorities have declared that the island is affected by community spread with the Delta variant, first detected there in early August, as the main strain.
In a recent interview Commissioner of Police Edvin Martin disclosed that less that 50% of the Force was vaccinated, but educational sessions facilitated by members of the medical fraternity were in progress with a view to getting officers to be inoculated.
