Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he has called on the French authorities to lend assistance in the search for an abducted 12 year old girl.

Kernisha Etienne was taken from her home around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday by “suspected lunatic”, Kian Alexander.

Before the abduction, Alexander went to the home of his uncle, Laurent Joseph Bruno, and attacked him with a cutlass – inflicting serious wounds to his head and face.

Alexander then abducted Kernisha, who is his uncle’s adopted daughter.

Prime Minister Skerrit is in the United States attending the Summit of the Americas conference, but says he wants to reassure Etienne’s family that the entire country is with them.

Speaking on the state-owned DBS radio, he says he has directed that all the state’s resources be used and that search and rescue efforts should not end until Kernisha is found alive. He also revealed a request to the French government for use of a helicopter has been approved.

Skerrit says even though he is out of the country, the issue is an even greater priority than the Summit of the Americas, and his attention has been switched to the search and rescue of Kernisha Etienne.

He says he is very hopeful she is found alive.
