Guyana: escaped convict recaptured over a year later after seeking medical attention

In Guyana, a convicted killer who escaped from prison over a year ago, has been recaptured after seeking medical attention with a knife stuck in his neck.

Police confirmed Samuel Gouveia was arrested on Tuesday at the Mahdia District Hospital.

He went there to get treatment after sustaining the injury during an argument with another man over money, late Monday night.

The convict was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was placed under police guard.

He was positively identified by a prison officer as well as by records and his tattoos.

Gouveia had been convicted of manslaughter in the November 23rd, 2015 fatal stabbing of a 35 year old man.

He was serving a sentence of 18 years and 9 months in prison when he broke out of the Mazaruni Prison on February 15th, 2021.
