A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck western Haiti around 8:29 a.m. (local time) this morning, followed 20 minutes later by another with a magnitude of 5.2.
The country’s Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) says several houses have collapsed and people may have died or been seriously injured.
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, and was felt all over Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
No tsunami is expected to have been triggered by this event, as it occurred below land.
