CMC – Health authorities Monday said they were investigating a suspected death from the Monkeypox virus as the island recorded five new cases of the disease.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) confirmed that the investigation is ongoing into the suspected Monkeypox-related death and that five new cases of the disease have brought the county’s total number of infections to 12.
The authorities said that the new cases were reported between September 7 and 12, with the affected areas being Kingston & St Andrew, St Elizabeth, Manchester and St James.
More than 42,000 cases have been detected in 95 countries including Barbados, Jamaica, The Bahamas and Bermuda.
The symptoms of the virus include a rash that initially looks like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy. Other symptoms of Monkeypox can include, fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, muscle aches and backache, headache as well as sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough.
