CMC – A High Court Judge in Jamaica on Friday adjourned to November 9, the case of a 17-year-old Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) student charged with murder following the stabbing death of her fellow student late last month.
Justice Feona Feare-Gregory sitting at the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, was told that a post-mortem report, as well as statements, are outstanding from the case file.
As a result, the student, who is being represented by attorney Kymberli Whittaker, and making her first appearance since the incident on September 29, was ordered to return to court on November 9.
Michion Campbell was stabbed during a fight between both students on the school compound. The incident has left students and teachers traumatised, with Education Minister Fayval Williams promising to roll out a programme designed to help students de-escalate conflict.
Last week, Whittaker told the Gleaner newspaper his client is “understandably devastated at the turn of events”.
“The matter is not as clear cut as it seems. On Friday when it goes before the court, there are some legal issues that will come up, then we’ll have an understanding of the statements that are before the courts,” Whittaker told the newspaper.
